This will mark the sixth consecutive year that Oak has supported the Island’s Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18 boys’ and girls’ teams—an initiative that began in 2020 and continues to be a cornerstone of Oak’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mission.

As part of its CSR commitment to youth sports, Oak aims to provide resources, opportunities, and support to young athletes, coaches, and grassroots sports organisations.

Tanya O’Carroll, Managing Director of Oak Isle of Man, commented:

“Supporting the development of young athletes on the Island is something we are incredibly proud of. These squads represent the best of youth dedication and sporting spirit, and Oak is delighted to help them thrive.”

The 2025/26 season kicks off in earnest with a series of open sessions and trials commencing immediately after TT Week, welcoming both returning talent and new faces eager to make their mark.

Season recap: A year of development and determination

The 2024/25 season showcased the Island’s junior squads competing in the Tier 2 England Hockey Junior Club Championships, with players drawn from the six island clubs. The squads undertook preseason tours in Scotland and Wales, and committed to rigorous training sessions on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons—even in adverse weather conditions, demonstrating commendable dedication.

The boys' team, past champions of the competition, faced a narrow second-round defeat to Neston in a hard-fought battle after taking an early lead. Despite the loss, many players are now set to progress to university-level hockey, having honed their skills significantly over the season.

The girls’ team began their campaign with a thrilling home fixture that ended in a 3–3 draw, eventually losing on flicks. A strong semifinal run in the Plate competition followed, featuring standout performances against high-calibre opposition including players from the Holcombe Talent Academy.

The U16 girls recorded impressive wins over sides like Bowdon and North Stafford, and narrowly missed out on progressing further due to player unavailability against an exceptional Chester side. The boys’ team delivered a shootout win in the first round and showed strong developmental progress across a shortened season.

Storm delays and transport issues postponed the start of both U14 teams' campaigns, but both groups responded admirably. The boys defeated a strong Preston team in a dramatic shootout before bowing out to a dominant Chester side. Meanwhile, the girls progressed to the Plate semi-finals after a string of improving performances and earned praise from eventual champions Leamington Khalsa as their toughest opponents all season.

Looking ahead

As the new season approaches, the Island’s junior hockey players can reflect on a year marked by growth, perseverance, and team spirit. With Oak’s continued sponsorship, these young athletes are well-equipped to build on their progress and compete with passion and purpose in the 2025/26 season.
