24 June 2025 Passion meets purpose – James Tracey supports Guernsey basketball Business League

Oak empowers its leaders to make meaningful contributions in areas that matter to them. Each Managing Director is given £2,000 annually to support causes they care deeply about. For James Tracey, Guernsey Fund MD, the choice was clear, basketball.

James Tracey Guernsey Basketball

James has been a dedicated member of the Guernsey basketball community for most of his life. He has played competitively for over 15 years, most recently as a division 1 champion, and also competes in Division 2. His involvement extends far beyond playing. For more than two decades, James has committed himself to coaching, sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation of athletes. He now serves on the Guernsey Basketball Association as a committee member and as Head Coach for both the U16 and U18 teams. Most recently James has been awarded for services to basketball and the ‘president’s pick’ by Guernsey Basketball Association.

Basketball has played a deeply personal role in James’s life. It’s where he met his wife—a seasoned and widely respected player in Guernsey, known for playing the most basketball games on the island. Their two sons are also active players, making basketball a true family affair and a cornerstone of their shared life.

Supporting the Business League

Guernsey basket business league

This year, James has chosen to allocate part of his CSR budget to support the Guernsey Basketball Association’s Business League. Running from 26th June to 31st July 2025, the league is a fun, social and inclusive competition open to both men and women. It offers a unique opportunity for local businesses and community members to come together through sport.

His contribution will help with logistics, including venue hire and equipment, as well as promoting participation and broadening access. By supporting this initiative, James is not only strengthening the sport he loves but also giving back to the community that shaped him. His commitment is a powerful reflection of Oak’s values in action, using our resources to empower people and make a tangible difference. James has also used his funding to donate to Island Gymnastics to support with travel to Orkney Island Games 2025.

This support enhances Oak’s sponsorship of U18 Guernsey basketball teams, highlighting our commitment to youth development and community enrichment.
