20 August 2025 Rewild Carbon Impact Report: Oak’s ESG commitment in action

The recently released Rewild Carbon 2024 Impact Report outlines the fantastic work Oak’s support helps deliver - from restoring ecosystems, reintroducing wildlife and supporting local communities.

As a business committed to ESG and sustainable finance, Oak Group is proud to continue supporting Durrell’s Rewild Carbon initiative. In addition, Oak’s ESG commitment extends to carbon footprint reduction, environmental responsibility and ethical business practices.

Durrell’s Rewild Carbon Impact Report for 2024 highlights some of its key achievements and milestones whilst restoring one of the world’s most endangered ecosystems, Brazil’s Atlantic Forest.

More than a carbon offset programme, Rewild Carbon delivers meaningful and measurable outcomes for climate, biodiversity, wildlife and local communities.

2024 at a glance:

Restoration

66 hectares of new forest corridor were planted in 2024 alone. 202 hectares of forest are now under active restoration – up from 136 hectares in 2023.

143,650 native trees planted and nurtured, spanning 177 species that support biodiversity and ecosystem stability.

Forest corridors are now reconnecting fragmented ecosystems and linking wildlife-rich areas such as Morro do Diabo State Park.

Wildlife

Two successful translocations of black lion tamarins (a critically endangered species found only in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest) have taken place.

New forest corridors are being fitted with nest boxes to support tamarin dispersal and encourage long-term habitat expansion.

Community

98 local jobs were supported in 2024 through nurseries, tree planting and forest maintenance.

169 people received training in forest management and restoration practices.

429 local residents attended outreach events to support conservation education

Oak’s on-going support has also helped Rewild Carbon protect giant armadillos from extinction in the Cerrado, fund community-led firefighting efforts to protect the fragile habitats of the endangered Sky Frogs and strengthen on-going conservation and education efforts for both wildlife and land.
