He earned a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accountancy at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and finished his articles at the Johannesburg accounting firm Pim Goldby, where he also earned his qualification as a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1984.
